I saw Steve Kilbey in New York, Soho in 1992, I think. Anyway, it was at the Knitting Factory. They spelled his last name "Kilby". Do these guys get any respect? Besides that, I saw him at the second of two shows and he was great. I met the Church drummer J.D. Dougherty before he had cut an album with them. He was standing at the top of some stairs, and I asked him if he was who I thought he was. He was totally freaked out that anyone would recognize him. I think Steve got a little tipsy there for awhile, he was forgetting many of the lyrics....... stopping a lot. But then, he just seemed to get it back together, and it was the best concert I've ever seen. There was about 50 people there, no more. I was in the second "row" from the stage. It was just Steve with a 12-string and some amazing echo effects tastefully added to his mic. It was definitely an experience I'll never forget. He was taking requests from the audience most of the show.
