Steve talks about Blurred Crusade
Friday, 01 January 1982

This interview mentions the name of the man, Ron Brown, who directed the videos for You Took and Almost With You, which were part of a short film to be shown in cinemas.  I saw Ron filming an interview with Marty in Melbourne a few years ago; I wonder what became of it? Interesting point: many of the BC songs were old and could have been on Of Skins and Heart.

Early interview with Steve and Richard, between first two albums
Thursday, 01 January 1981

This is an odd interview, mainly in the strangely business-like tone of Steve's answers.  He sounds like success is the most important thing on his mind and he's watching very closely how popular, or not, the band is. This is in stark contrast to how he was just a few years later, when the band are content to follow their own muse.  Still, it's rare to find early interviews, so I'm pleased to add this to the archive.

Review of live show 1985/6
Tuesday, 01 January 1985

Bernard Zuel reviews The Church playing at the Tivoli in Sydney, just before the release of Heyday 1985.

Interestingly, on the back of the clipping, a portion of the Australian singles charts is shown, and Already Yesterday sits at number 4. Above it are the Hoodoo Guru's "Like Wow - Wipeout" at #1, Stems "Tears Me In Two" at #2 and Arctic Circles "Angel" at #3.

An absolute must-listen if you want to know the kind of music that makes Marty tick. As you probably know, he's an avid record collector and you'll hear that come through loud and clear in this interview with Ed and Gaz from East Village Radio. The show is called Off The Record.

Great video interview with Marty
Monday, 01 February 2010

Very nice interview with Marty by InFrame.tv, talking about the band's chemistry. There's some great concert video (too short!) and don't forget to click the "outtake" button for a description of how the band writes together. More guesswork is involved than you might think!
